The Ballad of John Brummett

Updated: Apr 15

You can't start a fire without a spark...

Arkansas News Bureau columnist John Brummett looks at musicians supporting presidential tickets—country music has-been Hank Williams Jr. is for McCain-Palin, while arena rock has-beens Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel are for Obama-Biden—to divine the cultural significance thereof.

Naturally, since Brummett is a baby boomer, he examines it through the prism of a bunch of baby boomer musicians who had their break-out hits in the 1970s, all of whom are bordering on being nostalgia acts, and are largely irrelevant today.

Because if you’re a damn baby boomer, there’s nothing that’s ever happened in the history of the world that’s as important as the damn baby boomers, and baby boomer fave musicians are the only damn music that has ever mattered. Don’t get me started on the damn baby boomers.
