Obamacare Exchanges, Day 1: Add Arkansas To The List Of States Without Access

Updated: Apr 13

Much to the surprise of, well, no one, the Obamacare exchanges that were set to go live today are failing miserably all over the country. States with state-based exchanges like Oregon and California have been experiencing serious glitches, but the federal exchange is also experiencing outages, leaving virtually everyone without access. In Arkansas, we have a “state exchange” — which we’ve been told was going to create all of this “competition and efficiency” and a “better consumer experience” — but the Deputy Commissioner of the exchange, Cynthia Crone, told lawmakers yesterday that Arkansans can’t actually enroll in the exchange via the Arkansas Health Connector website. When I tried to access the portal, I got a different error message:

And I’ve also been unable to reach anyone through the “user-friendly” live chat. It’s been about an hour:

On the first day of Obamacare, it seems we are well on our way to a third-world experience.
