Tonight, the Saline County Tea Party has scheduled a forum — at Brown’s Restaurant at 6:45 in Benton — inviting their state legislators to discuss the Medicaid expansion / “private option” that many of them supported. The original invitation to legislators, from Ed Hairston of the Saline County Tea Party, read
We have many members concerned about your vote on this bill, they have asked me to invite you to our next meeting on May 9th to convince us to continue to support you.
After that, Ed sent out a subsequent invitation with more conciliatory language — nonetheless, the language above suggests that he is far from the only conservative who reacted to what our legislators have done with some sense of disappointment and betrayal. I plan to cover this meeting; perhaps I will see you there. If there’s enough interest, I may even live-stream the event on our Ustream account. Leave us a comment if you’d like to see video from the event.
Those who are interested in the issue will also find David Ramsey’s story to be of interest. It’s a thoughtful and fascinating, if highly partisan, account of the battle over expansion. I intend to discuss that story in a series of posts next week.
